Privacy Policy
Last updated 3 October 2026
NowSaid explains unfamiliar terms in a conversation as it happens. This policy says what happens to what it hears, and what is kept about you.
Who we are
NowSaid is published by Startup Corners, which decides how the data described here is used. Startup Corners' registered name, legal form and address: to be confirmed. Contact: privacy@nowsaid.example.
Your voice
NowSaid never receives audio. Your phone's speech recognition service (usually Google's) turns speech into text. It may do that on the phone or send the audio to its own servers, under its own privacy terms; NowSaid lets it choose, as it recognises speech far better that way.
When NowSaid reads an explanation aloud, it uses only voices installed on your phone, never one that sends the text to a server.
If you turn on Ignore my voice, NowSaid records you talking for 30 seconds, once, and turns that into a voiceprint: a list of numbers that describes your voice, not a recording of it. The recording is not kept. The voiceprint stays on your phone. It is never sent to NowSaid or anyone else, and it is left out of backups and transfers to a new phone. While Ignore my voice is on, NowSaid reads your phone's microphone itself, in memory on the phone, and gives the speech recognition service that audio with your voice taken out. You can delete the voiceprint at any time under Your voice in the conversation settings; deleting your account deletes it too. Because a voiceprint is biometric data, NowSaid asks before recording it and uses it only to leave your voice out.
The first time you record your voice, the app downloads a voice model from this website. That download is an ordinary web request, like opening this page.
What is sent, and to whom
| Recipient | What it receives | What it keeps |
|---|---|---|
| The NowSaid server, run on Railway (region to be confirmed) | The recognised text, the conversation language, your phone's time zone and a sign-in token identifying your account, over an encrypted connection. | The conversation is held in memory while you listen and discarded when you stop. The server's logs record connections and counts, never what was said. Railway's network logs record IP addresses and request times. |
| Anthropic, whose Claude model writes the explanations | The recognised text of the last few minutes and the explanations already given, with instructions. Not your account. | Anthropic does not train its models on it, and deletes it within 30 days, unless it is flagged as breaking Anthropic's usage policies, when it can be kept for up to 2 years. |
What is stored
| Where | What | For how long |
|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication (Google) | The account created when you first open the app: its ID, and when it was created and last signed in. If you sign in with Google, also the email address, name and profile photo Google provides. Firebase records IP addresses and device details for security. | Until you delete the account. IP addresses: a few weeks. |
| Cloud Firestore (Google), in Tokyo, Japan | How many seconds you listened on each day, and your time balance: the hours left in a plan and any extra time. | Daily usage: 35 days. The balance: until you delete the account. |
| Cloud Firestore (Google), in Tokyo, Japan, only if you buy something | For each purchase through Google Play: what was bought, when, the price and tax Google reports, the Google Play order number and purchase token, and the time it added. Google Play takes the payment; NowSaid never sees your card or payment details. | 24 months after the purchase is used up, refunded or ended, or until you delete the account. The purchase token, without your account, for about 13 months after deletion, so it cannot be used again. |
No recordings, transcripts or explanations are stored, by NowSaid or on your phone. There is no history to look back at.
Crash reports (optional)
If you turn on Send crash reports under About, the app sends a report to Firebase Crashlytics (Google) when it crashes: what went wrong, the device model, the Android and app versions, and an installation identifier. Reports never include audio, transcripts or explanations. The switch is off unless you turn it on; crashes from before you turned it on may be sent when you do. Crashlytics keeps reports for 90 days.
This website
This site is served by Firebase Hosting (Google), which records requests (IP address, browser and page) to run and protect the service. The site sets no cookies and has no analytics.
Why this data is used
- To provide NowSaid, which is the agreement between us: the recognised text, the account, the daily allowance, and the time you buy and the receipts for it.
- To keep it secure, our legitimate interest in preventing abuse: IP addresses and security logs.
- With your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in the app: crash reports.
Where it is processed
Daily usage is stored in Japan. Firebase Authentication, Crashlytics and Anthropic process data in the United States and may use other countries. The NowSaid server runs wherever Railway hosts it (region to be confirmed).
Deleting your data
In the app, go to Menu › Account › Delete my account. The account, its paid-tier flag and its daily usage are deleted straight away. Without the app, see Delete your NowSaid account; requests by email are completed within 30 days. Deleted data can remain in Google's backups for up to 180 days before it is overwritten.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it, delete it, send it to you in a portable form, or stop using it. Write to privacy@nowsaid.example. You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
NowSaid is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Recording other people
NowSaid listens to everyone nearby, not only you. Laws on recording and processing other people's speech differ between countries and states. Telling the people in the room is your responsibility.
Changes
When this policy changes, this page and the date at the top change with it.
